Decreasing tree mortality by Gene Editing

Hi,
Forests are suffering from climate change as well. The mortality rate of trees is increasing (eg https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-17966-z) . As trees are absorbing CO2, they play a key roll in the fight against climate change.
So I'm wondering why there is so less effort in Gene Editing of trees to decrease tree mortality rate. Couldn't this have also a big impact in our fight against climate change?
