Aging, Shared

Outcome

A ledger on which real-time data will be collected from individuals, to track their vital signs and lifestyle choices and activities.

Why the Need?

There are currently very few options to collect real-time health-related data about individuals. Even when such data is being collected by wearables, it is often difficult to gather all the data from different wearables on a single database, where they can be matched with the person they originated from. A shared ledger could collect and store this kind of information in a secure way that will ensure the participants’ anonymity and keep their privacy. The data could then be used to –
  • Help researchers come up with potential new treatments to aging
  • Personalize medications for older adults in a time resolution of minutes
  • Raise awareness about the aging process every individual experiences throughout their lives

Stipulations for a Successful Breakthrough Solution
  • The ledger must be secure from hacking
  • The ledger should not be maintained by any pharma firm, governmental department, or central authority
  • The ledger must be anonymized to all but the end users (those who’ve allowed their data to be collected in the database)

Promising Technologies for Solutions

Blockchain technologies seem to currently have the best potential to fulfill the requirements of this breakthrough. However, other technologies - existing or hypothetical - that enable the creation of a shared ledger, should not be discounted out of hand.

Expected year for proof of concept: 2025
Expected year for mass-scaling: 2030

@dw2, @tblue, what are your thoughts on this potential breakthrough? Do you think it's enough of a breakthrough to achieve radical life extension? Is anyone else likely to do this in the absence of an XPRIZE competition?
