A holistic system for a house that can efficiently recycle 90 percent or more of all waste.
Stipulations: The winning team will demonstrate a system that can be implemented on scale in most houses and homes, and can effectively recycle at least 90 percent of all waste produced by the inhabitants. The system should be affordable and modular, so that it can be fit into every house or building.
Importance: Every year, enormous amounts of waste are being produced by households throughout the world. Most of this waste finds its way into landfills or to the seas and lakes, where it becomes a major source of pollution. This XPRIZE can dramatically reduce the volumes of waste released by households, and at the same time recycle that waste into materials and energy that can be used by the inhabitants.
