The Ever-Fresh Food

Imagine a future in which no food goes to waste or rots away. Do we have the technologies we need to make that happen? If so, what are they? Let us know!
The Ever-Fresh Food - Reducing Perishability of Fresh Food: Methods to reduce the perishability of fresh food.
Stipulations: The winning team will come up with novel, affordable and accessible methods to reduce food spoilage along the value chain, and dramatically extend the shelf life of fresh food, while preserving its nutrition value, freshness, safety, taste and texture.
Importance: The later the food loss along the value chain, the greater the negative environmental impact. Wasted food not only means wasted resources that went into producing it, but also additional harm from replacing the wasted food by producing more. Furthermore, the wasted food itself, if dumped into landfills and left to rot, contributes to additional greenhouse gas emissions. It is estimated that food loss and waste is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. This XPRIZE will reduce food loss and waste by reducing the perishability of fresh food.
