This week, XPRIZE Connect had the pleasure of hosting 21 teachers from the TGR Foundation: A Tiger Woods Charity. As educators, preparing students for the future workforce was of particular interest.
The TGR Foundation's mission is to empower students to pursue their passions through education. They offer award-winning STEM curricula, college-access programs, digital platforms, and educator professional development, enabling underrepresented students the resources and support needed to thrive in school and beyond.
The XPRIZE Future of Work design team was able to join and facilitate an interactive ideation session. We shared a bit about the work we do on the Impact and Design team and gave the teachers a high-level overview of some of the core problems associated with the future of work. We divided the teachers into four groups and challenged each group to consider the technologies that could be leveraged to enhance, augment, or disrupt education to prepare students for the workforce. We also asked them to share some of the barriers they may face in the implementation of such technology. Finally, we asked them how kids would need to change their thinking and learning patterns to adapt to this new technology.
What resulted? 4 awesome ideas!
As for challenges to implementation, most teachers felt the top challenges were:
The Future of Work team thoroughly enjoyed our time with the TRG Foundation teachers and we hope they too found our time together valuable! Thank you to XPRIZE Connect for letting us be a part of this fantastic event!

- Use gamification, VR, and bio-feedback to enable kids to experience and understand their emotions and to grow in empathy.
- Use VR/mixed reality/augmented reality to take kids on "virtual field trips" to places they would not otherwise have access to. We called this one the "magic school bus".
- Use 3D Printing to enable critical thinking skills and problem-solving. The benefit here is that kids would be able to transition between both tech and the "real" world to solve problems in both and to make an impact.
- Use VR to create global teams of kids to work on a global project. Create a virtual space for kids to collaborate with other kids from around the globe to tackle issues. Here we'd build cultural, social, and problem-solving skills.
As for challenges to implementation, most teachers felt the top challenges were:
- Getting administrative buy-in
- Finding ways to incorporate these new ways of learning into the current educational assessment structure
- Obtaining the finances necessary for the implementation and support of the technology
- There was consensus amongst the groups that this new way of learning would be quite natural for kids, given a majority of kids are already using some form of technology now.
