About Frontline Health Prize Design

XPRIZE is excited to officially kick off the design process for our new Frontline Health Prize Design.
This is an ambitious initiative sponsored by Fondation Botnar, the JBJ Foundation and World Bank with a focus on helping frontline health workers in their efforts to treat the world’s most vulnerable people. This prize will utilize the most powerful and scalable technology (such as A.I.) to train, support, and evaluate frontline health workers, in addition to increasing health care accessibility. Our ideal future state is one in which digitally-enabled and data-driven solutions have revolutionized self-care, preventative care, and primary care by providing access to health for all.
This forum will explore the latest news, innovations, efforts, technologies, and ideas for how to tackle the challenges around frontline health. We invite all knowledgeable and interested people to participate in an exchange of ideas, Q&A, brainstorming and topical information sharing. Our research and these discussions will ultimately lead to the prize design — a complete competition design that provides detailed criteria, steps, and activities that lead to scalable and viable innovations.

The challenge
Half of the world’s population cannot access essential health services due to distance, a shortage of trained health workers, and other hindering factors such as economic and cultural barriers to care. Lack of universal health coverage (UHC), including access to quality essential services, has had a significant impact on the global population’s wellbeing, in areas such as productivity, education and learning, and sustainable development.
The UN has set out to achieve universal health coverage by 2030. This includes financial risk protection, access to quality essential healthcare services, and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines. A key component of achieving UHC is addressing the health workforce shortage, maldistribution, and performance challenges. Frontline health workers, who directly provide services where they are most needed, especially in remote and rural areas, are a critical part of the health workforce and key to achieving UHC.
The goal
The goal of this XPRIZE is to achieve breakthroughs that use powerful and scalable technology to support frontline health workers as they treat the world’s most vulnerable people. By leveraging the genius and passion of a global crowd of innovators, the prize will help to achieve a technology-empowered frontline health system for everyone, everywhere, every day.
Your role
As a member of our global online community of experts, you will have the chance to share your knowledge and experiences, discuss promising innovations, and influence the evolution of the Frontline Health Prize Design.
