This XPRIZE will challenge teams to develop a small land footprint black wastewater reuse and resource recovery system capable of:
We have now moved into fundraising for this prize. The complete prize design will be shared with potential donors, sponsors and other stakeholders. We're looking forward to launching the competition as soon as funding is secured.
- Capturing over 85% of fit-for-purpose water (500m3/d for a community of up to 10,000 people) to include potable water quality and non-potable water fit for at least one non-potable water application;
- Generating energy from sludge to become net positive energy and potentially energy independent;
- Extracting at least 50% of phosphorus and 33% nitrogen from sludge; and
- Demonstrating real-time detection and rapid response to contamination incidents.
